We're heading to South Africa tonight! No passport required, no 18-hour flight, and absolutely no need to remember which side of the road they drive on.

South African winemaker Ryan Puttick is joining us behind the bar to share wines from Franschhoek and Old Road Wine Co., and we couldn't be more excited to introduce you to these bottles.

If you've never spent much time exploring South African wine, tonight is an excellent place to start. The country has an incredible winemaking history, a wildly diverse landscape, and a knack for producing wines that seriously overdeliver for the money.

These are approachable, delicious, everyday-drinking wines. The kind you can open on a Wednesday with takeout, bring to a friend's house without overthinking it, or keep a few bottles of on hand because you know they'll make just about any evening a little better. There also a special staff favorite on this tasting, The Last Elephant, which tastes delicious and does good in the world.

Ryan will be here to share the stories behind the wines, answer your questions, and hopefully convince a few of you to give South Africa a more permanent place on your wine racks.

Join us at Vino Market for a very special Collector’s Tasting featuring the wines of Catena Zapata, one of Argentina’s most important and influential wine estates. We’ll be joined by AnnMarie Sgori, Catena Fine Wine Specialist in the U.S., for a deep dive into the extraordinary high-altitude vineyards of Mendoza and the tiny differences in soil, elevation, climate, and site that can completely transform what ends up in your glass.

We’ll begin with Catena’s Alta Chardonnay, Alta Malbec, and Alta Cabernet Sauvignon before moving into some of the estate’s most coveted wines: Adrianna Vineyard White Bones Chardonnay, Nicolás Catena Zapata Red Blend, and Adrianna Vineyard River Malbec.

This is where the evening gets really fun. The Adrianna Vineyard has become one of the great laboratories for understanding Argentine terroir, and tasting these wines side by side gives us the chance to explore why particular parcels can produce wines with such distinct personalities—and why Catena’s top vineyards have helped change the way the wine world thinks about Argentina.

We’ll taste slowly, ask plenty of questions, and get wonderfully nerdy about altitude, limestone, alluvial soils, Malbec, Chardonnay, and the idea of Grand Cru-level terroir in the Andes.
